MOUNT VERNON — Donald W. Johnson, 91, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Tuesday,  June 29, 2021, at his home. He was born July 1, 1929, in Guernsey, Ohio, the son of George Walter and Altha Bell (Carnes) Johnson. Donald moved to Mount Vernon in 1965 and retired from Cooper Bessemer.

He served in the United States Army from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict and was a Bronze Star recipient.  Donald enjoyed walking, watching dirt track and Nascar racing, playing euchre with family and friends and completing the daily chores on his small family farm.

Donald was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mount Vernon.

Surviving are three daughters, Debbie (Gregg) Stricker, Altha Jane Johnson and Judy Ann (Paul) Wilson; two sons, Daniel (Cherie) Johnson and Rodney (Paula) Johnson; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents Donald was preceded in death by his wife Icy Johnson, two brothers, Harold Johnson and Raymond Johnson, and a sister, Marie Johnson.

The family will observe private viewing and services.  A private graveside service with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
