MOUNT VERNON – Tanner Salyers has announced his resignation from Mount Vernon City Council to accept the appointment to Knox County recorder offered him by the county’s Republican Party.

Salyers replaces longtime recorder John Lybarger, who resigned from the post.

“Last night, the Knox County GOP appointed me to replace John Lybarger in the recorder’s office,” Salyers told the Mount Vernon News. “Since then, I have resigned my council seat and began the transition.”

A ceremonial swearing in will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 11, at the Knox Service Center, Salyers said. Ohio Supreme Court Justice Sharon Kennedy will administer the oath.

The county recorder keeps vital real estate records, including all encumbrances or liens upon a property. It is a full-time position.

“Without the work of the county recorder in recording, safekeeping and organizing all documents in a competent and logical manner, it would be nearly impossible to purchase land and be assured of a clear title or to lend money with land as security,” the Knox County website stated.
