MVGSL roundup: Griffin Insurance rallies, but falls to Team Hope

Team Hope took the lead over Griffin Insurance with a five-run fourth inning, but it was a two-run fifth that ended up being the difference. 

Griffin rallied back with four runs in the sixth but fell short in an 8-6 loss in Mount Vernon Girls Softball League 16U play on Sunday, May 27, at Memorial Park.

Julia Ellis had three hits, including a triple, and Bre McClusky struck out eight batters to lead Team Hope.

Morgan Yoder had three hits, including a triple, and Azaya Rine hit a home run for Griffin.

Lady Amvets 13, Ariel 1

Lady Amvets scored four times in the opening inning and kept adding on from there in a 13-1 victory over Ariel.

Maddy Tocheff and Abby Sapp each drove in a pair of runs to lead Lady Amvets. Tocheff had three hits, coming a double away from hitting for the cycle, and Sapp hit a double and a triple.

Chelsea King struck out three batters in the circle to go with one hit at the plate for Ariel.

Don White State Farm 4, Real Living 2

Don White State Farm scored three runs in the first and hung on for a 4-2 win over Real Living.

Emerson Creech struck out seven batters and added two hits to lead Don White. Paisley Platt, Savannah Heagren, Kinley Baker, Sydney Snyder and Abigail Yocum each had two hits as well. One of Platt’s hits was a triple.

Scarlet Roland, Carlie Culbertson and Aubrey Thompson had two hits apiece to pace Real Living.

8U

Jeld-Wen 22, Danville Tire & Alignment 8

Jeld-Wen put six runs on the board in each of the first three innings to roll by Danville Tire & Alignment 22-8.

Elizabeth Holler, Kaylin Peck, Evie McCann, Taylynn Riley, Lia Dans and Keeghan Hartman each had four hits to lead Jeld-Wen, which had 33 hits as a team.

Kynlee Ferenbaugh led Danville Tire with three hits.

Alan’s Auto 11, Prescription Turf Care 9

Alan’s Auto rallied for six runs in the third inning to take the lead on its way to an 11-9 win over Prescription Turf Care.

Audrey Cheng, Bailey Styndl, Lucy Adams, Peyton Maimet and Kelleigh Thompson had three hits each to lead Alan’s.

Morgan Tocheff, Lexi Harlacher, Brindlee Abruzzese and Isabella Matheny had three hits apiece to pace Prescription.

Straight A Signs 17, Charlie’s Body Shop 2

Straight A Signs scored four runs in the first inning to take control, but it was a 13-run third inning that opened it up in a 17-2 win over Charlie’s Body Shop.

Elesa Ann Raine and Aubrey Clifton had three hits apiece, and Kenzie Staats added two hits at the plate and struck out four batters in the circle for Straight A Signs. Raine hit a double and a triple, and Staats hit a double.

Hannah Merritt had two hits, including a double, to lead Charlie’s.
