Baseball roundup: Dillon's big fly keeps Utica in LCL race

Josh Dillon hammered a two-run home run to send Utica to a walk-off 8-7 win over Granville in Licking County League play on Monday, May 10, at American Legion Post 92 Field.

The win keeps Utica tied with Lakewood in the loss column atop the Cardinal Division standings.

Dillon had two hits and scored three runs; and Lincoln Valentine, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh, scored two runs along with Tanner Parsons.

Utica scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game, with Collin McCullough and Tyler Collura each providing RBI singles.

Utica got two hits and three runs from each of the top three batters in the lineup in Valentine, Dillon and Hunter Billman en route to a 13-2 win in five innings over Grandview Heights on Saturday, May 8.

Roman Gamble also had two hits and Tanner Parsons drove in two runs to lead Utica to the non-league win at American Legion Post 92 Field.

Mason Grant got the win, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

Jackets split pair of non-league games

Ethan Laslo’s RBI double in the first inning gave host Mount Vernon all the runs it needed in a 7-1 win over Clear Fork in non-league play on Friday, May 7.

Konner Daughriety gave the Jackets a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning, and Laslo followed with a double.

Daughriety finished with two hits and three RBIs, Owynn Gleason had two hits and two runs, and Marcus Bradley had four walks in four plate appearances to lead Mount Vernon on offense.

Caden Rowland went the distance, allowing one earned run on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts to get the win for the Jackets.

Gahanna started strong out of the gate, building an 11-0 lead through 3 1/2 innings. The host Jackets recovered with a six-run third but couldn’t complete the comeback, falling 15-7 in non-league play on Saturday, May 8.

Carter Carpenter had two hits, a run and an RBI to lead Mount Vernon.

Garrett Helsel drove in four runs on two hits and allowed one earned run over five innings to notch the win for the Lions.

Trey Burger and John Nhem each drove in three runs for Gahanna.

Silver Knights sweep away Devils

Kendall Carter and Preston Brady each had two-hit games, but host Danville couldn’t keep up with Bishop Ready and was swept in a non-league doubleheader on Saturday, May 8.

Carter had two hits, a run and an RBI in the second game. The Silver Knights scored four runs in the eighth inning to win 7-5.

In the opener, Ready scored eight runs in the first inning to roll to a 10-3 win over the Blue Devils.

Brady had two hits and scored a run, and Wyatt Weckesser had three RBIs for Danville.
