KNOX COUNTY – Knox Public Health (KPH) is taking its vaccination efforts on the road, plus offering scheduled appointments in order to provide more opportunities for local residents to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Beginning next week, KPH will visit Fredericktown and Danville to administer vaccine from a mobile unit. Attendees will be able to be vaccinated in their vehicles or walk up to the mobile unit.
On April 26, the mobile vaccination unit will be in Fredericktown from 1–4 p.m. in the parking lot of the former high school at 106 Columbus Road. On April 28, the mobile unit will be in Danville from 2–4 p.m. at the Danville Memorial Park, 802 S. Market St. Both clinics will offer the two-dose Pfizer vaccine on a first-come, first served basis. Additional locations and dates will be announced later.
KPH has begun to use an online scheduling system to provide vaccinations by appointment in the KPH conference room at 11660 Upper Gilchrist Road. The first clinic using the online scheduling system is set for April 27 from 1–4 p.m. To access the online scheduling system, go to Gettheshot.coronavirus.ohio.gov; enter your zip code, address and town/city; and available scheduled clinics in Knox County will be listed. A link to the scheduling website is also available on the KPH website (knoxhealth.com).
The current first-dose clinics being held on Wednesdays at the Mount Vernon Energy Fieldhouse will continue through April, with clinics set for April 21 and 28 from 9–11 a.m. Beginning in May, first-dose clinics will no longer be held at the Fieldhouse. Instead, all first-dose clinics will be held by appointment at KPH or at mobile sites. Second-dose clinics already planned at the Fieldhouse will still take place as scheduled.
As of April 15, Knox County is ranked 64th out of the 88 Ohio counties in the percentage of residents who have been vaccinated. Only 29% of Knox County residents who are eligible to be vaccinated have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, the Ohio Department of Health has reported. The average rate for all of Ohio is 36%.
