Knox Public Health announced a new four-week program designed to help adults support children experiencing loss, according to a recent statement. The "Helping Children Deal with Loss" series is intended for parents, caregivers, educators, and community members seeking practical tools to assist children in coping with significant life changes such as death, divorce, pet loss, moving, and other transitions.
The program addresses common myths about grief that can discourage healthy emotional expression in children. These include beliefs like "time heals all wounds," "be strong for others," or "don’t feel bad." The sessions will focus on replacing these messages with compassionate and practical strategies that encourage children to process their feelings safely and healthily.
The four-week series will be held at Knox Public Health, located at 11660 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon. Each session will offer two time options—4:00–6:00 p.m. or 6:00–8:00 p.m.—on April 8, April 13, April 20, and April 27.
According to the announcement, Knox Public Health recognizes the importance of supporting children through loss as part of building healthy families and resilient communities. The program aims to equip adults with understanding and tools that foster emotional well-being and strengthen connections between children and caregivers.
Participation in the program is free of charge due to partnerships with the Knox County Foundation and funding from the OneOhio Foundation. Individuals interested in attending are encouraged to email [email protected] to reserve a spot. More information is available as listed on the organization's website at KnoxHealth.com.
