Elizabeth Fee hit four 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead the Mount Vernon Nazarene women’s basketball team to an 80-58 win over Taylor in Crossroads League play on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Ariel Arena.

Fee was four-of-five from long range and six-of-eight from the field, and had four assists and three rebounds for the Cougars (10-9, 7-5), who bridged the first and second quarters with an 18-0 run that gave them their largest lead at 40-17.

Fee was one of five players to score in double figures for MVNU. Maggie Coe had 13 points, Taylor Gregory had 12, Maria Dobson scored 11 and Maggie Coblentz had 10.

Gregory notched a double-double with 13 rebounds and added team-highs in assists with seven and blocks with three.

Taylor Westgate had 15 points and six rebounds; and Madisyn Fischer added 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals to pace the Trojans (16-5, 9-4).

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Jevon Knox went for 30 points and Clay Hilliard added 24 points to lead MVNU, which overcame a 10-point first-half deficit to grab a 91-84 win at Taylor in Crossroads League play on Wednesday, Feb. 3, in Upland, Indiana.

Knox made six of eight 3-pointers and went a perfect six-for-six at the foul line, adding six rebounds and four assists to lead MVNU.

Clay Hilliard went 10-for-17 from the floor, buried four 3s and dished a game-best four helpers for the Cougars (6-9, 6-6), who bridged halftime with a 21-6 run to take the lead for good.

Kyle Kegley went for a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds along with a pair of steals, and Kade Ruegsegger added 15 points and seven boards for MVNU, which led by as much as 15 in the second half.

CJ Penha had 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists; and Jason Hubbard notched a double-double of his own with 18 points and 11 boards to pace the Trojans (11-10, 5-8), who closed the gap with a pair of 3s in the final 16 seconds.

Kaden Fuhrmann added 15 points and James McCloud chipped in 10 points for Taylor.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Spencer Stanley and Luke Funte each had a pair of kills late in the fourth set as MVNU tried to cap an upset of 10th-ranked Indiana Institute of Technology. But the Warriors took the set and went on to defeat the Cougars 25-16, 21-25, 19-25, 28-26, 15-7 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Ariel Arena.

Stanley finished with 17 kills, Riley Barretto had 13 kills, Funte chipped in 11 kills and Jaysen Matsumoto dished out 45 assists to lead the Cougars (1-2, 1-2).

Daniel Skrzypchak had 13 digs, and Matsumoto and Caden Donaldson had 10 digs apiece. Barretto and Landon Ewers had two blocks apiece to aid the Cougar defense.

Daynte Stewart went for 17 kills, 11 digs and three blocks; Brandon Jones had 51 helpers and 11 digs; and Joey Hermes had 16 digs for the Warriors (6-1, 2-0).
