YMCA roundup: Blackford, Nutt lead Fearn by Cline/Matheny

Young athletes ranging from preschool (which was unscored) to eighth grade played Junior Cavs basketball at the YMCA of Mount Vernon on Saturday, Jan. 23. Here’s how they fared:

KINDERGARTEN/FIRST GRADE

Fearn 34, Cline/Matheny 10

Jayce Blackford scored 12 points and Maxwell Nutt added 10 points to lead Fearn past Cline/Matheny 34-10.

Austin Yost led Cline/Matheny with four points.

Strong 26, Burgett 24

Easton Strong led Strong to a narrow 26-24 win over Burgett. 

Johnston Grubb paced Burgett with a game-best 16 points.

Kelling 36, Donaugh 20

Lila Witham, Madeline Kelling and Burley Mussard scored 10 points apiece to lead Kelling to a 36-20 win over Donaugh.

Curry/Phillips 50, O’Bryan/Hunnicut 8

Max Curry poured in 20 points to lead Curry/Phillips to a 50-8 win over O’Bryan/Hunnicut.

Evie McCann added 10 points and Ky’Sean Gough chipped in eight points for Curry/Phillips.

Bronson Hunnicut scored six points for O’Bryan/Hunnicut.

Jones/Miller 46, Hubbard/Cheng 22

Three players scored in double figures to lead Jones/Miller to a 46-22 win over Hubbard/Cheng.

Liam Tilmant scored 16 points, Sage Shaw had 14 points and Tabor Holdbrook added 12 points to lead Jones/Miller.

Cohen Hubbard had six points and Jason Cheng and Will Thompson added four points each for Hubbard/Cheng.

SECOND/THIRD GRADE

Vonck 30, Rine/Curry 15

Lane Baker scored eight points and Blain Matkovick added six points to pace Vonck, which doubled up Rine/Curry 30-15.

Adelle Curry led Rine/Curry with six points.

Hall/Melton 40, Cline/Matheny 30

Bentlee Elliott went for 16 points to lead Hall/Melton to a 40-30 win over Cline/Matheny.

Nash Spearman added 10 points and Jordan Hall chipped in eight points for Hall/Melton.

Jace Loman poured in 18 points for Cline/Matheny.

Newell 54, Bradley 44

Alex Stevison scored 16 points to help Newell by Bradley in a 54-44 shootout.

Maddox Eggert and Asa Harris had 10 points each and Colby Staton chipped in eight points for Newell.

Kason Oswalt went for 18 points and Ethan Bradley had 10 points to pace Bradley.

Hood 31, Roberts/Yingst 30

Winsten Snyder poured in 18 points to help Hood narrowly defeat Roberts/Yingst 31-30.

Max Boyd and Wesley Hood each scored six points to boost Hood.

Elliott Merritt scored seven points and Weston Yingst and Adrian Lee added six points apiece for Roberts/Yingst.

FOURTH/FIFTH GRADE

Dayton 52, Yost 42

Levi Saunders scored 12 points and Benjamin Salinas added 10 points to lead Dayton by Yost 52-42.

Ethan Pursel paced Yost with 12 points, and Luke Tilmant added 10 points.

Hess/Miller 48, Hagerman 28

Broden Burt went for 22 points and Zayden Comer had 18 points to lead Hess/Miller to a 48-28 win over Hagerman.

Justus Shaw scored 22 points in leading Hagerman in the setback.

SIXTH- TO EIGHTH GRADE

Kreager/McNichols 54, McPeek 35

Sami Lackonsen went for 23 points to lead Kreager/McNichols to a 54-35 win over McPeek.

Bryce Kreager scored 16 points and Joey Tickle added 13 points for Kreager.

Aric Lust had 18 points and Ethan Franz added 11 points for McPeek.

Ross 52, Brooks 18

Ethan Wheeler scored 18 points to lead Ross to a 52-18 win over Brooks.

Carson Meyer added 10 points and Hunter Looney and Aidan Nesbit each chipped in six points for Ross. 

Kalman Kanuckel paced Brooks with 10 points.

Woosley 41, Sheehan 31

Joseph Butts and Grand Mesarchik scored 13 points apiece to pace Woosley in a 41-31 win over Sheehan.

Tyler Marsell scored 15 points and Mason Chesnut added 12 points for Woosley.
