Mount Vernon High School is set to host a series of open field sessions in August for incoming 6th through 8th-grade students interested in enhancing their softball skills.
According to the organizers, the MV Club Softball open fields will occur on Sundays—August 3, 10, 24, and 31—from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mount Vernon High School (MVHS) softball fields. Each session will begin with skill-building drills and conclude with scrimmage play, offering players an opportunity to learn, compete, and connect with future teammates.
Organizers say the program is designed to create a welcoming environment for middle school athletes looking to improve their fundamentals while gaining game experience. "There’s no pressure—it’s about growth, hustle and having fun," a program coordinator said.
The sessions are free and open to all incoming middle school students regardless of experience level. Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment, including gloves, cleats, and water bottles. The open fields are part of the school’s broader effort to strengthen its softball program by building a strong foundation with younger players.
