MOUNT VERNON – Wanda L. Marietta, 93, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Dec. 11, 2020, while at Brookdale Assisted Living in Mount Vernon. Born on April 14, 1927, in Hanoverton, to Wayne and Alta (Pelley) Roach, she was delivered by her grandfather, Dr. Henry Pelley, the local country doctor, in his home.
Wanda was a 1944 graduate of Lisbon High School. She married Merle Marietta on Valentine's Day in 1948 in a civil ceremony in Greenup, Ky. They lived in Columbus while Merle finished his degree at The Ohio State University. They then moved to several regions of Ohio before settling in Knox County in 1960.
Wanda worked for a number of years at JC Penney in downtown Mount Vernon. After Merle retired, they wintered in south Texas and enjoyed traveling, often by motorcycle. She was a member of First Christian Church. She also belonged to the Glenwood Chapter #303 of Eastern Stars. She was an avid worker of crosswords, word games, puzzles and player of card games with her friends.
She is survived by her children, Connie (Richard) Uveges of Middletown, N.Y., Rodney of Hanover and David (Margo de Camp) of Gambier; grandchildren, Bradley (Lisa) Uveges, Stuart Uveges, Grant (Whitney) Peacock, Emily Peacock, Susan Marietta and Laurel Marietta; sisters-in-law, Velma Miller and Zoe Ann Stuckey; and niece and nephews.
Wanda was predeceased by her husband, Merle; her son, William (Bill) in 2015; tragically by a young daughter, Susan in 1961; her sister, Lois Joann Stoffer; and brothers/sisters-in-law, Robert and Norma Young, Clark and Helen Froelich, Carl and Betty Marietta, Robert Miller and Richard Stuckey.
The family will observe a graveside service at the Grove Hill Cemetery in Hanoverton.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of Brookdale Assisted Living and the nurses of Brookdale Hospice for their loving care of Wanda during the final years of her life.
