Roundup: Freddies sting Yellow Jackets in season opener

Gabby Daniels scored a game-high 18 points and Summer Weller added 14 points to lead host Fredericktown to a 44-32 win over Mount Vernon in non-league play on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Weller knocked down four three-pointers and scored all of her points in the second half to spark the Freddies (1-0).

Eli Trace capped a six-point rally to pull the Yellow Jackets into a 30-30 tie in the fourth quarter.

But a Daniels free throw followed by Weller’s third three-pointer started a 14-2 run to close out the game.

Lexi Shaffer had seven points to lead MV, which had eight different players crack the scoring column.

Danville 89, Coshocton 44

Danville had no trouble finding the basket, putting up 56 points in the first half on its way to a lopsided non-league win at Coshocton.

Ella Proper scored a game-high 28 points, including 12 in the first quarter alone to lead the Blue Devils (1-0).

Brooklyn Hess had 21 points, Camie Newbold added 13 and Alaina Boeshart chipped in 11 for Danville; which led 27-11 after the first quarter, 56-18 at the break and 77-33 through three.

Savannah Bartlett scored 11 points to lead host Coshocton (0-1).

Centerburg 72, Delaware Christian 15

Seven different players scored six points or more as Centerburg rolled to a non-league win at Delaware Christian on Friday, Nov. 20.

Chloe Goulter scored nine of the Trojans’ first 14 points and finished with a team-high 13 points. Alyssa Harris scored all of her 11 points in the fourth quarter.

Centerburg (1-0) matched its win total from last season with the win over the Eagles. The Trojans held Northside Christian to 15 points in a win on Dec. 17, 2019 and the 50 points they scored in that game was a season-high.

Clara Johnson and Allie Beekman scored nine points apiece, Amelia Smith added seven and Rebecca Scholl and Olivia Ross chipped in six points each for Centerburg in this season's opener.

Katie Neuhart scored 13 points for the Eagles (0-1) and Abby McKee scored the other two, which came in the first quarter.

Mount Gilead 49, Galion 30

Host Mount Gilead outscored Galion 19-3 in the third quarter and rolled to a non-league victory on Friday, Nov. 20.

Candace Millisor scored a game-high 15 points, including eight during a 15-5 first period and seven in the third.

Madilyn Elson added nine points and Holly Gompf chipped in eight for Mount Gilead (1-0).

Emma Jutz and Teanna Greter scored 12 points apiece to pace the Tigers (0-1).

Colonel Crawford 45, Northmor 19

Colonel Crawford outscored the host Golden Knights by 15 points in the second half in a lopsided non-league game on Friday, Nov. 20.

Allison Teglovic scored a game-high 17 points, including 10 in the second half, to lead the Eagles (1-0).

Lexi Wenger led Northmor (0-1) with eight points.

Boys bowling

Keshaun Goldsmith rolled a game-high 267 and a series-high 454 to lead Mount Vernon to a 2199-1700 win over East Knox in the season-opener for both teams on Monday, Nov. 16, at Colonial Lanes in Mount Vernon.

Tre Flowers (206) and Jacob Tucker (200) also had big second games for the Yellow Jackets. Flowers rolled a 376 series and Tucker was right behind at 375.

Will Jenson rolled a 535 series, including a team-high 278 in the second game after rolling a 257 in the first.

Girls bowling

Izzy Moore’s 375 series led Mount Vernon to a 1818-534 win over East Knox in the season-opener for both teams on Monday, Nov. 16 at Colonial Lanes in Mount Vernon.

Katrina Weills (324 series) and Chelsea King (306) were also solid for the Yellow Jackets.

Chloe Ketron led the Bulldogs with a 182 series.
