MANSFIELD – Mount Vernon girls volleyball coach Courtney Rabold was selected as the Ohio Cardinal Conference Co-Coach of the Year on Oct. 13.
Rabold, who is in her fifth season with the Yellow Jackets, has coached the team to a 12-7 overall record and a 7-5 mark in the OCC, good for third behind co-champions Ashland and Wooster.
Senior Maddy Burdette was an All-OCC first-team selection, seniors Delaney Rothgeb and Brooke Radermacher and junior Emma Summerfield were second-team selections and seniors Alexis Shaffer and Cora Lepley were honorable mentions.
Ashland’s Jenise Vaughn and Wooster’s Jen Snowbarger joined Rabold as Co-Coaches of the Year. Senior Karli Shepherd of the Arrows was Offensive Player of the Year and the Generals’ Cassidy Sims, also a senior, was Defensive Player of the Year.
Dean, Gunderson earn first-team league honors in boys soccer
Mount Vernon juniors Christian Dean and Mays Gunderson highlighted the Yellow Jackets All-OCC honors in boys soccer.
Dean and Gunderson were both selected first-team all-league. Senior Erich Rhodeback and juniors Colton Spurgeon and Isaiah Jones were second-team honorees and juniors Andrew White and Logan Kirby were honorable mentions for the Jackets, who finished fourth in the OCC at 3-3 behind champion Wooster (6-0).
Wooster sophomore Simon Schonfeld was named Defensive Player of the Year and JP Lytle was named Coach of the Year. Lexington senior Ryan Parker was selected as the league’s Offensive Player of the Year.
Reddy named 2nd-team All-OCC in girls soccer
Junior Olivia Reddy was named second-team All-OCC in girls soccer for Mount Vernon, which finished fifth at 2-4 behind champion Mansfield Madison (6-0).
Senior Lexi Rapp and junior McKenna Brokaw were all-league honorable-mention selections.
Senior Taylor Huff was named Offensive Player of the Year, and Zach Huff was named Coach of the Year for the Rams.
Ashland senior Carlie Stutzman and Lexington senior Emma Sturts were named Co-Defensive Players of the Year.
Kiehl named OHSAA Chief Operating Officer
Dr. Kimberlee Kiehl was named Chief Operating Officer, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) announced on Oct. 13.
Kiehl will collaborate with the OHSAA Board of Directors and Executive Director Doug Ute, who was named to his position in September, to refine and implement the OHSAA’s strategic plan. She’ll also oversee policymaking and maintain organizational effectiveness, an OHSAA release said.
She has held positions at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) and the Ohio History Connection, both based in Columbus. She was also a tenured professor at The Ohio State University.
The OHSAA said Kiehl was selected after a national search process.
