Kokosing Construction Company Presents to KCCC Students

Mount Vernon, OH-Kokosing Construction Company presented at the Knox County Career Center on Tuesday. Andy Fox, Regional Workforce Coordinator, and Billy Saunders, Operator Coordinator, presented information about opportunities at Kokosing, certifications for various jobs, the interviewing process and what employers are looking for in potential candidates.

“We are here to show the KCCC students all of the opportunities in the construction trade and the beneficial long term careers in the construction industry,” said Fox.

Students from Building Trades, Auto Tech, Collision Repair, Metal Fabrication and Careers in Construction Trades volunteered to participate in a mock interview where they were each asked a variety of the same questions that an employer would ask them in a real interview. Questions were asked by both Kokosing representatives along with several of their peers in the audience. The KCCC students benefited from the information that was shared and interviews that were conducted. “It gave me a refresher for what I need for interviews in the future,” said Shay J. from Metal Fabrication (Clear Fork). Zechariah S. from Building Trades (Mount Vernon) added, “Learning how the interviews are going to go and seeing what kind of questions are asked and how to answer them was beneficial.”

Jackelin B. from Auto Tech (Mount Vernon) concluded, “It was beneficial to be a part of this. I learned I need to be more detailed in my descriptions and how I can improve on my weaknesses.”

Feds approve Knox County Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Knox County Emergency Management Agency is pleased to announce the final federal approval of the Knox County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Knox County Commissioners formally adopted the plan on August 20, 2020 and final approval was received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on September 3, 2020.

The 2020 Knox County Hazard Mitigation Plan provides a comprehensive review of mitigation needs in communities across Knox County. The plan is an opportunity for government officials, businesses, and residents to work together to increase their resilience to disasters and catastrophic events. The plan is intended to help community leaders implement projects and develop policies that make the county more resistant to damage from disasters and facilitate rapid recovery when disasters do occur.

An approved hazard mitigation plan makes the county and municipalities eligible for non- emergency funding from FEMA to lessen the impact of disasters. Several grant programs are available to assist with structural projects like acquisition and demolition of buildings that are repeatedly damaged by floods, elevation of highway sections or bridges that flood, as well as constructing tornado safe rooms.

The hazard mitigation plan was developed using a whole community approach. The planning team included broad representation from jurisdictions and agencies across Knox County. The work was completed through a series of countywide and jurisdiction work sessions. Throughout the process, the planning team reviewed and considered various regional, county, and local plans and documents that guide community and economic development in Knox County.
