BOYS GOLF

Landon Griffith fired a 36 to lead the Centerburg boys golf team to a pair of victories— over Mount Gilead and Cardington-Lincoln— to clinch first place in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference on Sept. 16 at Kings Mill Golf Club in Waldo.

Levi Houck shot a 39, Reed Compton a 40 and Dallas Cornett a 41 for the Trojans, who beat Mount Gilead 208-256 and the Pirates 156-217 to capture the league crown.

Steven Street was also solid, firing a 40 for Mount Gilead.

Highland 185, Fredericktown 197

Emerson Grassbaugh (43) and Drew Santo (45) helped Highland overcome Fredericktown in KMAC play Sept. 15 at Hiawatha Golf Course.

Will Streby fired a 41 to win top honors and Ian Muka shot a 49, but the Freddies came up short.

Luke Cain shot a 48 and Bryce Rinehart a 49 for the Scots.

GIRLS GOLF

Centerburg 209, Licking Valley 233, Northmor 240

Amaiah Gammell shot a 47 and Ella Paul and Melanie McLaughlin each shot 53 to lead the Centerburg girls golf team to victories over Licking Valley and Northmor on Wednesday at Wyandot Golf Course in Centerburg.

Savannah Friend won top honors with a 46 for the Panthers.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Mount Vernon def. Lexington 18-25, 25-20, 25-17, 25-14

Seniors Brooke Radermacher had 13 kills and 10 digs, Delaney Rothgeb dished out 31 assists and Maddy Burdette had 26 digs to help host Mount Vernon celebrate Senior Night with a four-set victory over Lexington in Ohio Cardinal Conference play on Sept. 17.

Emma Summerfield chipped in 12 kills for the Yellow Jackets.

Highland def. Danville 25-5, 25-13, 25-12

Kendall Stover had 13 kills to lead Highland to a win over host Danville in KMAC play on Sept. 17.

Ashlynn Belcher had seven kills and Makenna Belcher added six kills and four aces for the Scots.

Johnstown def. Utica 25-10, 25-19, 25-11

Georgia Gamble had 10 digs and four kills, Bella Ellis had nine digs and seven assists and Laini Crawmer had three aces, but Utica fell on the road at Johnstown in straight sets on Sept. 17.

Cardington def. Centerburg 25-19, 25-12, 25-21

Savannah Dehart had 11 digs and Taylor Scowden had five shots to lead host Centerburg, which fell in straight sets to Cardington in KMAC play on Sept. 17.

Scowden and Stella Weisbrod led with six kills apiece and Weisbrod served up three aces to lead the Trojans.

Highland def. Centerburg 25-7, 25-12, 25-8

Makenna Belcher and Abby Eusey each served up five aces to lead the Highland volleyball team to a straight-set victory over Centerburg on Sept. 15 in Sparta.

Kendall Stover had nine kills, Makenna Belcher had eight, and Eusey and Ashlynn Belcher had seven kills apiece for the Scots.

Mount Vernon def. Mansfield Madison 25-23, 25-21, 26-24

Delaney Rothgeb had 22 assists and 12 digs to help Mount Vernon to a three-set win over host Mansfield Madison in Ohio Cardinal Conference play on Sept. 15.

Maddy Burdette had 12 digs and Alanta Spurgeon had eight kills to lead the Yellow Jackets.

Watkins Memorial def. Utica 25-16, 25-13, 25-3

Lily Borem had four kills and a pair of blocks, but visiting Utica couldn’t overcome a stout Watkins Memorial team, losing in straight-sets in Licking County League play on Sept. 15.

Fredericktown def. Mount Gilead 25-15, 25-19, 25-12

Audrey Bouton had 11 kills and a pair of aces to help host Fredericktown down Mount Gilead in KMAC play on Sept. 15.

Grace Sipes had four aces, Lindsey Boeshart had three and Julia Partington had two as the Freddies served up 13 aces as a team.

Katie Mull had 22 assists and Boeshart added 12 digs for Fredericktown.

Also: Northmor def. Danville 25-12, 25-19, 28-26 on Sept. 15; Cardington-Lincoln def. East Knox 25-13, 25-12, 25-13 on Sept. 15.

GIRLS SOCCER

Mount Vernon 7, Mansfield Senior 2

Sidney Lyons and Ella Conway each scored twice and added an assist to lead Mount Vernon to a 7-2 win over host Mansfield Senior in OCC play.

McKenna Brokaw assisted on three goals, including the first two. Both goals, the first by Lyons and the second by Olivia Reddy, were scored within 45 seconds of each other in the eighth minute.

Highland 7, Marion Harding 1

Emma Hinkle scored three goals in the first six minutes of the game and Highland rolled to a 7-1 win over visiting Marion Harding in non-league play on Sept. 17.

Hinkle added three more goals for the Scots in the second half.

BOYS SOCCER

Highland 4, Marion Harding 1

Trailing 1-0 at the break, the Highland boys soccer team scored four times in the second half to beat host Marion Harding in non-league play on Sept. 17.

Xavier Privette scored the game-tying goal off a feed from Thomas Cruz in the 48th minute, and Aidan Ward scored on a laser from 30 yards out to give the Scots the lead for good six minutes later.

Zane Sheets and Colton Gustafson also tallied second-half goals for Highland, and Caleb Hunter dished out an assist.
