Football playoff preview: 3 local teams still standing

This season’s football play-offs started last week, and there were six local schools in the competition in three divisions/regions. This week, there are still three schools standing (one in each division/region) for the semi-finals: Highland, Northmor and East Knox.

Scots fly high in tournament after volleyball sweeps over Granville and Bloom-Carroll

The Highland Scots earned their way into the OHSSA volleyball play-offs and then advanced to round-two, after sweeps over Granville and Bloom-Carroll. The Flying Scots (2204 and 14-0 MOA), advanced to the play-offs with a 3-0 District Semi-Final win versus Granville, Oct. 27. The Scots won the match 25-15, 25-7, 25-9.
The Cardington-Lincoln Pirates continue to roll over the net. Cardington-Lincoln, 21-3 continued on in its season with 3-0 sweep over Fairbanks, Oct. 29 and a first-round play-off win, 3-1 over Johnstown Northridge, Oct. 30.

Northmor ground game and one bomb beats Freddies 28-14The Freddies jumped into the lead, but sixth-seeded Northmor built on a 7-6 first quarter lead and never looked back, defeating 11-seeded Fredericktown 28-14 in Division VI, Region 23 action.Ben Mast completed a 23-yard TD pass to Xavier Mullins, less than five minutes in, to give the Freddies a 6-0 lead, but a determined Golden Knights defense and three Max Lower scores followed by a Marcus Cortez bomb-and-run of 74 yards to Andrew Armrose, put the Knights too far ahead for a successful comeback.

Let’s talk Old-school vs. New-school and football positions. Things change and I am all right with that. Things evolve and that, too, can be a good thing. But, sometimes things were OK the way they were and changing them for the sake of change is not all that acceptable. I guess it might be a case of old-school vs. new-school, and while this column deals with some of that, I believe we will share many columns on good old-school and poor old-school vs. improved new-school or you-really-messed-it-up new-school.
