Scott Pullins:
To the Editor,
I was perplexed by some of Scott Pullins’ statements in an article on your front page over a week ago. Planning to run for House District 98, new under the recently gerrymandered map, he claims that Mike DeWine and Amy Acton “ruined Ohio.” Really, with the onset of the COVID pandemic, they did their jobs in trying to protect us from the rapid spread of the killer disease.
Pullins claims he’ll fight back against vaccinations and mask mandates. Does he prefer we die? Does he really believe that putting children and their families in harm’s way is a good idea? Does he want the pandemic to go on and on, with subsequent damage to families, schools, businesses and health workers, instead of doing all we can to stop or at least slow it down? Has he not noticed that most of the people now being infected and dying are unvaccinated? Surely necessary exceptions can be accommodated without putting everyone at risk.
He moves on to education, making the false claim that critical race theory is being taught in K-12. It is not. He probably wants to promote ignorance so we won’t feel any obligation to try to correct some of the mistakes, many egregious, America has made in the past. Admitting and fixing is much more honorable than hiding. Let us not choose ignorance.
It’s laudable that his daughter is helping him. He needs someone to check his “facts.” Let’s all try to sort out the truth from the fabrications. Real freedom requires responsibility. Wearing masks is much like not smoking indoors. We know second-hand smoke can kill. You don’t want the freedom to jeopardize others’ lives.
