On Sunday November 3rd, I noticed there was a cat stuck in the tree outside my house. For a few days I contacted everyone I knew with a large ladder to try to get him down to no luck. A few people who had been passing by on the sidewalk noticed and attempted to get him down only to chase him further up the tree to where he was then 40 ft off the ground.
I think it was Tuesday or Wednesday I tried calling the Mount Vernon Police department and then the fire department the next day, unfortunately neither was able to help get this Kitty down. In desperation I made a Facebook post hoping that it would be shared with someone who would be able to help get him down. It had been 3 or 4 days and he had no food or water and we had had some cold weather and rain on those days. The post I made to a few groups local to Mount Vernon eventually started to become popular enough to where finally it seemed that people cared and were going to help however they could get him down.
On the post, a few people suggested that we contact Duane Hook, it turns out he is based out of Columbus Ohio and he does cat rescues free of charge for really tall trees. His videos that he makes of the rescues are amazing to watch!
I was able to get in contact with him Thursday morning. On Thursday we had two separate tree top companies come out and try to get the cat down but by that point they had scared the cat pretty much as high as it would go in the tree which would be about 60 or 70 ft so, Duane was realistically our last option and hope to get him down. Which he did on Friday afternoon!
I coordinated with Amanda of a local rescue, shady owl ranch, to take in the cat and see that he got veterinarian care.
If you are interested in this story, I can sit down and more fully expand on the details and timelines. I'm going to attach some of the photos that I was able to take during all of this, this 6-day saga, as well as link to the Facebook posts!
