It was a battle between two of the top teams in the Knox Morrow Athletic Conference on Jan. 12 with Centerburg (9-2, 5-1) hosting Danville (11-4, 6-2), and the Trojans were lights out shooting while playing outstanding defense in a 57-21 win.

Kylee Hess put on a show scoring the basketball with a 19 point game, leading Danville (10-3, 5-1) to a 50-42 win over KMAC rival East Knox (4-8, 1-5) on Jan. 6.

Blake Sipes had a standout performance for the Fredericktown boys’ basketball team (4-4, 2-1) on Jan. 5, leading the Freddies to a 66-47 win over KMAC rival Danville (1-10, 0-4).

The Cardington-Lincoln boys’ basketball team (5-1, 3-0) bounced back with a 63-43 win over KMAC rival Danville (1-7, 0-3) on Dec. 22, making it five wins in six games to start the season for the Pirates.

Senior Ella Proper has put together a top notch career for the Danville Blue Devils (6-2, 3-1), and last week she reached the 1,000 point milestone in a win over Knox Morrow Athletic Conference rival Fredericktown (4-3, 1-2). The Blue Devils are now in first place in KMAC.

Last week the Danville boys’ basketball team (1-3, 0-0) edged out Ridgewood (1-2, 0-0) for their first win of the young season, but they couldn’t keep up the momentum with a pair of losses to Granville Christian Academy and Smithville.

It was a thrilling matchup in KMAC girls' basketball action between rivals Danville (3-2, 1-1) and Centerburg (2-2, 1-1) on Dec. 9, with Ella Proper and Kylee Hess combining for 43 points in a 71-69 double overtime win for the Blue Devils.

Danville volleyball team hopes the fast start will continue throughout the season

The Danville Blue Devils are looking to build on last season’s success, so much so that the team slogan for this upcoming play is “Unfinished business.”

Danville High School softball’s third annual "Launch it for Louis” hit-a-thon fundraiser was held July 19 at D.A.R.C.I. Field, home of Danville softball, and the event raised $10,200, with full funds going to finance a four-game road trip to South Carolina at the start of the 2024 season.

The Danville Blue Devils took their 3-3-2 record into the final game of the North Central Ohio Summer League softball season on July 18 against the Loudonville Redbirds, who finished their regular season at 16-7. Danville was 18-7 during the regular season.

Danville entered the fourth week of the North Central Ohio Summer League with a 2-3-1 record and met the Northwestern (West Salem) Huskies on July 12, a week after splitting a doubleheader against them.

Danville came into the third week of the North Central Ohio Summer League with a 1-2-1 record and took its swings against Northwestern (West Salem) on July 5.

The second week of the North Central Ohio Summer League saw Danville playing a doubleheader against Johnstown, which was coming off a season in which it advanced to the Final Four in the playoffs.

In softball, Centerburg, Danville and Loudonville are playing in the eight-team North Central Ohio (NCO) Summer League that includes Ashland Crestview, Johnstown, Northwestern, Norwayne and Mapleton.

The showcase of talented local high school student-athletes who have signed to continue their academic and athletic careers in college continues. Danville High School celebrated one of its own stars who will move on after the current season.

In the last year, the Danville Junior High School cheerleading team has focused on expanding the use of stunting throughout Knox County.
