Proper reaches 1,000 point milestone in Danville win over Fredericktown

Senior Ella Proper has put together a top notch career for the Danville Blue Devils (6-2, 3-1), and last week she reached the 1,000 point milestone in a win over Knox Morrow Athletic Conference rival Fredericktown (4-3, 1-2). The Blue Devils are now in first place in KMAC.

The Blue Devils started the week with a 53-43 win over KMAC rival Cardington-Lincoln (4-4, 2-1) on Dec. 13.

Cardington-Lincoln had a 10-6 lead after one quarter, and then Danville woke up in the second quarter outscoring the Pirates 15-12. 

The Pirates led 22-21 at halftime and outscored the Blue Devils 11-10 in the third quarter. Danville had a 22-10 advantage down the stretch to take the 10 point win.

Danville was led by Proper’s 17 points, and she was huge from the free throw line going 9-for-10. Brookelynn Carter scored 15 points and was 6-for-8 shooting free throws. As a team the Blue Devils were 21-for 29 from the foul line.

Madison Caulkins had a double-double with 10 points and 12 boards, and also had two steals and an assist. Hardwick scored seven points and had eight boards, four assists, two steals and a block. Henthorn scored six points and Hallabrin, Longsdorf and Lundyn Blevins scored five points. Hess put up three points and Celia Hall scored two points.

The Blue Devils finished out the week with a 60-54 win over Fredericktown, and Proper not only reached the milestone but also led the way in the win with 20 points.

Fredericktown went up 15-9 to start the game, led by Callie Carpenter’s seven points. The Blue Devils outscored the Freddies 13-10 in the second frame, making it a 25-22 game in favor of Fredericktown at halftime. The Freddies and Blue Devils duked it out, with Fredericktown taking a 43-39 lead after three. Danville finished strong with a 21-11 advantage to come back and take the big conference victory.

Proper was 7-for-8 from the free throw line and hit three shots from downtown. Carter and Hess each had 10 points to get to double figures. 

Carpenter had a game high 22 points for the Freddies. Ella Bouton had 12 points and Mya Bryant put up 11 points.

This week Danville has two away games. They travel to Northmor (1-6, 0-4) on Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. and then Northridge (3-5, 1-3) on Dec. 23 at 2:15 p.m.
