Utica’s varsity baseball team showcased its offensive firepower on May 15, rolling past Danville 10–1 in a home non‑conference matchup.

The game unfolded at Utica High School, where the Redskins seized control early and never let the Blue Devils gain momentum.

After a scoreless first inning, Utica broke through with three runs in the second. The offense kept rolling in the third, plating four more to extend the lead to 7–0. By the fourth inning, the Redskins added two additional runs, and a fifth‑inning tally pushed the margin to double digits. Danville managed its lone run in the fifth, but Utica’s pitching and defense shut the door the rest of the way.

The offensive attack was balanced and efficient. Nate Hite went 2‑for‑4 with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored, setting the tone in the middle of the order. Weston Simon was equally sharp, finishing 2‑for‑3 with two runs and two RBIs. Braxton Fisher contributed a hit and a run, while Daniel Bero added a single and an RBI. Jaxson Riggs chipped in two hits, and Gaige Spray went 2‑for‑4 with a double and an RBI, keeping the pressure on Danville’s pitching staff.

Utica’s lineup combined for 15 hits and 10 RBIs, posting a .500 team batting average on the day. The Redskins also showed discipline at the plate, drawing six walks and forcing Danville’s pitchers into tough counts.

On the bases, Elijah Bland and Aaron Hays each swiped a bag, adding speed to the offensive mix. Defensively, Utica was steady, recording 21 putouts and turning in clean fielding from Hite, Dalton Rodeniser, Fisher, and Spray, who handled multiple chances without error.

The pitching spotlight belonged to Riggs, who threw a complete game gem. He worked all seven innings, scattering eight hits while striking out 11. Riggs allowed just one run and no walks, facing 30 batters with poise and command. His ERA remained spotless at 0.00, underscoring his dominance on the mound.

With the 10–1 victory, Utica showcased its ability to combine timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and shutdown pitching. The Redskins’ balanced performance highlighted their depth and execution, leaving little doubt about their control in this non‑conference clash.
