The Danville varsity softball team opened its season with a thrilling 5–4 home non‑conference victory over Newark Catholic on Saturday.
The game was played last Saturday, Mar. 21, at noon at Danville’s home field.
Danville struck first with a run in the opening inning, but Newark Catholic clawed back late, scoring two in the fifth and adding runs in the sixth and seventh. The Blue Devils answered with a dramatic four‑run rally in the bottom of the seventh to secure the walk‑off win. The roster features a mix of experienced seniors and promising underclassmen, including Ruby Bartok (Sr., 1B/P), Addyson Bocock (Sr., P/2B/3B), and Taylor Meade (Sr., 2B/OF), alongside freshmen like Hailey King (C/OF), Morgan Hinkens (C/1B), and Kaylee Martin (3B/SS/OF). This balance of veteran leadership and youthful energy gives Danville depth across the diamond.
Up next, the Blue Devils return to action Tuesday, Mar. 24, at 5:15 p.m. with a home conference matchup against East Knox. The contest will be an early test in league play and a chance for Danville to build momentum after its opening win.
The last time Danville and East Knox met was Apr. 29, 2025, when the Blue Devils dominated at home with a 10–0 conference victory. That result sets the stage for another compelling showdown between the two rivals.
