Mount Vernon’s performance at the OHSAA Girls Wrestling State Championship was highlighted by a dominant title run from Ashlynn Brokaw, who captured the 110-pound championship with an impressive series of victories against top competition across the state.
Brokaw opened her tournament in commanding fashion, securing a first-round pin over Ashlynn Pennington of Alliance in 2:24, immediately setting the tone for her championship run. She carried that momentum into the quarterfinals, where she faced Anna Tsirambidis of North Royalton and earned a 7–1 decision, controlling the match with strong positioning and consistent scoring.
In the semifinals, Brokaw was pushed to her toughest test of the tournament against Presley Sandobal of Maysville. In a tightly contested battle, she showed poise under pressure, pulling out a 4–3 victory in the ultimate tiebreaker (UTB) to advance to the finals. The match demonstrated her resilience and ability to perform under pressure.
Brokaw saved her most complete performance for the championship bout, where she faced Emma Gorrell of Warren High School. Taking control early, she dictated the pace with multiple takedowns and maintained her advantage throughout the match. She went on to secure a 13–4 major decision, convincingly sealing the state title.
The championship marked Brokaw’s second consecutive state title, solidifying her position among Ohio’s elite wrestlers. Her path to the title showcased a complete skill set—dominance in early rounds, composure in a close semifinal, and control in the finals.
As a team, Mount Vernon finished outside the top 20 in the final standings, falling short of the official team leaderboard. While the Yellow Jackets lacked the depth of multiple placers needed to contend in the team race, Brokaw’s championship performance stood as a defining moment for the program and a clear indication of its high-end talent.
