Danville's Blue Devils turned in a gritty and efficient performance at the Division III sectional in Mechanicsburg, advancing all five wrestlers to the District Tournament.
Despite entering with a smaller roster, every athlete contributed points and earned a qualifying spot.
At 106 pounds, Jonathan Stephensbattled his way to a fourth-place finish, while Kyle Hackman (113 lbs) and Camden Horn (126 lbs) each secured third-place medals to move on. Cooper Balridge (144 lbs) added another fourth-place finish, giving Danville strength in the middle weights. The highlight came at heavyweight, where Carter Wittel (285 lbs) dominated his bracket to claim the sectional championship and lead the team's charge.
Collectively, Danville finished ninth overall with 77.5 points, a strong showing considering their limited numbers.
With momentum from Mechanicsburg, Danville now heads to the District Tournament at Hobart Arena in Troy on March 6-7, carrying confidence and multiple chances to secure berths at the OHSAA State Championships in Columbus.
Danville’s wrestling program made sure to celebrate its district qualifiers after the Mechanicsburg sectional.
“We wanted to recognize all our district qualifiers in our wrestling program. We had five boys competing last weekend, and they all qualified! Congratulations to Jonathan, Kyle, Camden, Cooper, and Carter!” the team shared.
The program also acknowledged the tough break for Logan Joseph, who was enjoying a standout season before a shoulder injury kept him from competing in the postseason.
“Good luck! We are very proud of each one of you on a great year!” the message concluded, underscoring the pride and support surrounding the entire roster as Danville heads into districts with momentum and determination.
