Utica outlasts Northridge in overtime thriller

The Utica boys basketball team played a close game against Northridge, winning in overtime with a score of 60-57.

The game was played at Utica High School on January 23.

Utica fell behind ten points during the first quarter, with Northridge’s offense getting to it early. The Redskins fought back in the second quarter and closed the gap to 5 points, making the score 28-33. Utica outscored the Vikings again in the third quarter, but not enough to take over the lead. The score was 39-41 going into the last quarter.

At the end of the fourth quarter, the teams found themselves tied at fifty-one and went into overtime. During overtime, the Vikings scored six and could not beat the Redskins, who scored nine.

Nate Hite led Utica’s scoring with sixteen points, eleven of them coming from the second quarter. Hunter McKinney followed up with twelve, and Kamden Hall and Zander Davis each scored eight points of their own.

While Northridge did not take home the win, the leading scorer belonged to them. Hilton tallied twenty-one points. Their next top scorer was Higgins, who had thirteen.

Utica’s next game is on January 30 at Johnstown-Monroe High School.

The last time the Vikings and Redskins played each other was December 13 of this season, and Utica won 46-45.
