The Utica girls wrestling team fought hard at the Lady Raider Invitational, claiming fourth of eighteen teams.

The tournament was held at Reynoldsburg High School on December 21st.

Junior Hailey Wylgle tacked another first-place title to her season. She won all of her matches by pin, except for her first match, where she tech-falled her opponent 20-0.

Freshman Joslyn Snyder placed 4th in her weight class, her highest placing so far this season.

Ainsley placed second in her four-person pool in a weight class with thirteen girls, which was the second fullest weight class at the tournament

Freshman Taleah Clark dominated her weight class, claiming first place. Clark pinned all of her opponents, with an exception for her final match, where she won by injury decision. After the first period of the match, Clark was down 13-4. When her opponent was medically unable to continue the match, Clark was only trailing 13-14 and was on the road to go ahead.

“Going into my final match I was very nervous. I had some doubts, but I was thinking I’m not giving up, and I kept pushing,” Clark told the Mount Vernon News.

One of Clark’s notable traits is her determination to win. Her battle back in her final match proves this.

The team returns to the mat on January 4th at the Lady Rams Tournament.
