Utica's girls basketball team secured another victory in the Licking County League (LCL) with a 36-26 win against Watkins Memorial.
The game took place on December 9 at Watkins Memorial High School.
The win improved Utica's record to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in their conference, with their only loss being against Fredericktown. Watkins Memorial, having played only two games so far, recorded their first loss, making their record 1-1.
Senior Makena Wilson led Utica in scoring with ten points, contributing significantly in the fourth quarter to help secure the win. Emily Ritzer returned from an injury sustained in the first quarter of Utica’s opening game and made her presence felt by adding nine points.
According to the game's statistics, Utica's defense was effective in limiting the Warriors' offense to single digits in three quarters. They allowed only five points in the first quarter, seven in the third, and nearly shut down the offense entirely in the final quarter by allowing just two points.
Utica is set to play their second home game of the season against Northridge on December 12 after concluding a three-game streak of road trips.
