Mt. Vernon defeated Centerburg 57-36 on Wednesday in a decisive non-conference matchup that marked a strong season debut for the Yellow Jackets.

The game was played on Nov. 26, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at Centerburg High School.

Mt. Vernon set the tone early with its defensive pressure, holding Centerburg to limited second-chance opportunities and controlling the tempo throughout the contest. The Yellowjackets’ efficiency on both ends helped them open their season at 1-0 while handing the Trojans an 0-1 start. Centerburg struggled to generate consistent offense against Mt. Vernon’s length and ball pressure, ultimately finishing with 36 points, matching their season average from the night.

The Yellowjackets’ balanced scoring attack allowed them to maintain control across all four quarters, building momentum that carried through the second half. Centerburg, despite the loss, showed stretches of competitive play and will look to regroup as it moves deeper into its non-conference schedule. The Trojans will also aim to tighten their defensive rotations after allowing Mt. Vernon to finish with a perfect 1.000 winning percentage and a 21-point scoring margin.

Both teams enter the rest of the season with opportunities for growth, with Centerburg set to seek its first win and Mt. Vernon hoping to build on its early success.
