The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's basketball team faced a narrow defeat against Indiana University East on Tuesday, November 4, with a final score of 76-72. The game took place in Richmond, Indiana, where MVNU initially led the first quarter 15-10. However, IU East gained momentum and outscored MVNU 22-16 in the second quarter, leading 32-31 at halftime.
The third quarter saw both teams locked in a tight contest, ending with a tied score of 52. Despite a brief lead by MVNU following two free throws from Kylie Leibacher, IU East finished strong with an 18-12 run to secure their victory.
Turnovers proved costly for MVNU as they committed 23 turnovers that resulted in 27 points for IU East. Nonetheless, MVNU managed to shoot an impressive 51.9% from the field and outrebounded their opponents 41-27. Leibacher was the top scorer for MVNU with 29 points on 12-18 shooting. Anna Swisshelm contributed with 14 points and four rebounds.
Looking ahead, MVNU will travel to Beckley, West Virginia, to face West Virginia Tech on Saturday, November 8. The game is scheduled to tip off at 1:00 p.m.
