Mount Vernon City Schools Orchestra program will host its annual Fall Orchestra Concert on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Mount Vernon High School Theater.
The event, which will feature performances from Middle and High School student musicians, will begin at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.
The Mount Vernon Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade Orchestras will start the show. The seventh-grade Orchestra will perform “Mythos” and the Celtic-inspired “Gap of Dunloe.” The eighth-grade Orchestra will follow with an adventurous lineup that includes “Overlords,” “Sahara Crossing,” and “The 31st Day of Oktober,” offering a mix of dramatic, exotic, and festive themes perfect for the fall season.
Around 7:30 p.m., the spotlight will shift to the High School ensembles, the Prelude and Symphony Orchestras. The Prelude Orchestra will perform "Frontier Phantoms," "Sneaking Suspicion," and "Bran Castle," selections that showcase their technical progress and expressive playing. The Symphony Orchestra will conclude the evening with a dynamic program featuring "Wire Choir Workout, "Night on Bald Mountain," and a seasonal favorite, "Thriller," promising a finale filled with energy and excitement.
Guests can look forward to an evening of passionate performances by students who have worked tirelessly to showcase their talent and dedication to music.
"Each group has been working diligently to prepare a program that blends classical traditions with modern, energetic selections that are sure to entertain audience members of all ages," according to the event announcement.
Admission is free, and community members are encouraged to attend and show their support.
As autumn colors brighten Mount Vernon, the orchestras hope to fill the theater with the melodies and rhythm of the season.
