Running back Cyren Wallace and a strong defense led Danville to a 26-14 victory over Lucas on Friday night, advancing the Blue Devils to a 2-1 record for the season.
According to reports, Wallace rushed for 203 yards on 15 carries, including a notable 56-yard touchdown that highlighted his speed and vision. His consistent ability to break through the Cubs’ defense allowed Danville to maintain control of the game's tempo and field position.
On defense, Danville dominated the line of scrimmage. The team recorded 4.5 sacks, with Justice Tharp contributing two. This pressure effectively stifled Lucas' passing attack and limited their chances for a late comeback.
The victory marked Danville's second consecutive win over Lucas, following a postseason matchup in 2022. Coach Keith Wheeler's team has now secured back-to-back wins, reflecting growing confidence in a group that began the season with high expectations. "We wanted to be physical up front, and I think we did that tonight," Wheeler said. "Cyren gave us a spark, and the defense fed off that energy."
Danville is set to open conference play on Friday at Mt. Gilead, where Wallace and the defense will aim to extend the team's winning streak.
