Danville's volleyball team demonstrated significant determination on Tuesday night but ultimately fell to Loudonville in straight sets. Despite the loss, the Blue Devils' performance left a lasting impression on those present.
According to the team's statistics, Danville (1-4) was propelled by notable performances from several players. Senior setter Kenzi Staats surpassed her own single-match assists record with 28, directing the offense effectively. Junior libero Kayley Sheldon set a new school record with 27 digs, consistently keeping Danville competitive in each rally. Outside hitter Zoey Neitzelt excelled at the net with 15 kills and two blocks, underscoring her status as one of the team's most formidable players. Collectively, the team achieved 41 kills, 35 assists, and 58 digs, showcasing a well-rounded talent pool.
"If you were at the game and saw the stats, you’d never guess it was decided in just three sets," said Danville’s coach Morgan Spitler. "Our girls played with heart, hustle, and unmatched determination. Loudonville may have won the sets, but our team showed the true spirit of volleyball."
Spitler expressed optimism as Danville prepares to host Mansfield Christian on Thursday.
