Danville High School's volleyball team experienced a setback in its season opener on Friday against Central Christian. Despite the loss, the Blue Devils demonstrated determination and depth, indicating a promising season ahead.

According to head coach Morgan Spitler, the initial game was focused on overcoming nerves and establishing the season's tone. "The regular season is here — it’s our opportunity to grow as a team and make the most of every moment," Spitler said. "These girls are ready to prove themselves. First-game jitters are gone."

On the court, Erin Crider led Danville with nine kills, while Zoey Neitzelt contributed six and Kyla Kidwell added five. Defensively, Kayley Sheldon anchored the back row with 15 digs, aiding the Blue Devils in enduring long rallies.

Although Central Christian secured the victory, Danville's balanced attack and resilient defense echoed Spitler's message of progress. Players were active at the net and hustled across the floor, suggesting that the team has the potential to convert competitive play into wins.

Danville (0-1) is set to return to action on August 19 at Fredericktown, aiming to build on its initial performance and secure its first win of the season.
