Under the Thursday night lights at Campus Drive, the Centerburg Trojans secured a 10-2 victory over the Fredericktown Freddies. The win was driven by an impressive offensive performance from Gabe Campos and a strong pitching display by Ricky Faught.
Campos excelled at the plate, going 3-for-4 and playing a pivotal role in Centerburg's offense. He singled in the second, fourth, and fifth innings, contributing to the Trojans' total of 13 hits for the game. According to reports, the Trojans broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning when Campos lined a single to center field, sparking a rally that resulted in two runs. In the fourth inning, Centerburg capitalized on a Fredericktown error to score one run before Daniel Lemaster hit a two-run single and Mason Vallance followed with a triple that brought in two more runs. This surge gave Centerburg a commanding 7-1 lead.
Faught demonstrated his prowess on the mound by delivering six strong innings, striking out eight batters while walking two and allowing only two runs on seven hits. Gavin Snow provided effective relief pitching with a perfect inning that included two strikeouts.
Lemaster and Campos each recorded three hits during the game, while Vallance and Lemaster drove in two runs each. Faught also contributed offensively with two hits. The Trojans were aggressive on base paths, stealing four bases with Lemaster accounting for two of them. Defensively, Centerburg committed no errors as Vallance anchored their infield with ten defensive chances.
For Fredericktown, Kaiden Gibson contributed an RBI while Brode Davis led their offense with two hits in three at-bats. Davis also started as pitcher but allowed two runs on four hits over 1 1/3 innings. Devon Whitt took the loss after surrendering two runs on four hits in one inning of work.
Despite turning a double play, Fredericktown struggled to contain Centerburg’s potent offense as the Trojans marked an important win against their conference rival.
