The East Knox FFA of East Knox Local Schools has announced that member Ava Page recently competed in the State Veterinary Science Career Development Event at the University of Findlay, securing 91st place individually and contributing to a 39th place team finish.
According to the East Knox FFA, Page advanced to the state finals by placing 14th out of 840 individuals on an online general knowledge test, which qualified her among the top 150 to compete in person. At the in-person finals, she finished 91st individually, with a score that ranked her as part of the 39th place team.
During the finals held at the Dr. C. Beckett Animal Science Center at the University of Findlay, contestants identified veterinary tools, parasites, and animal breeds across various species. They also performed four hands-on practicums: piglet handling, dog muzzling, syringe preparation, and administering an intramuscular injection. The event evaluates student readiness for careers or education in animal health sectors such as veterinary offices or research facilities. This is only the second time an East Knox FFA member has reached the state finals for this event.
FFA, or Future Farmers of America, is a youth organization focused on developing leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. Founded in 1928, it prepares members for careers in agriculture, business, science, education, and more. With local chapters led by student officers and agriculture teachers, FFA operates at three levels: local, state, and national. The organization provides hands-on learning experiences and opportunities for personal development.
East Knox Local School District in Howard, Ohio, is home to the East Knox FFA Chapter. It supports student development through agricultural education and leadership opportunities. The chapter recognizes achievements such as American and State Degrees and is led by a 2024-2025 officer team including Dylan Springer as President and Hayden Baker as Vice President. The chapter also organizes events like fruit and strawberry sales to support its activities.
