Pollard powers Mt. Vernon past Heath in 17-6 victory

Keely Pollard homered and tallied three hits as Mt. Vernon rolled past Heath 17-6 on Wednesday behind a 12-run fourth inning.

Pollard went 3-for-4 at the plate, launching a two-run homer in the seventh and adding singles in the fourth and sixth. She also drove in three runs. Brooke Dovenbarger matched her with three hits and three RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fourth.

The Lady Jackets exploded in the fourth inning, scoring 12 runs on a string of hits and key at-bats. Jocelyn Scarbury had a pair of two-run singles, Hailey Rudrick added a two-run single, and Carly Kennedy brought in a run after being hit by a pitch. Rylee Myers contributed an RBI single, and Pollard added a sacrifice fly.

Heath struck first with two runs in the opening frame and added another on a solo homer by Kyndall Spicer in the third. Spicer led the Bulldogs, going 3-for-3 from the leadoff spot.

Miranda Oswalt earned the win in relief, tossing four shutout innings and striking out six. Pollard started, allowing six runs over three innings.

Mt. Vernon racked up 16 hits and played error-free defense. Dovenbarger led with five defensive plays.

Heath drew seven walks and turned one double play.
