Merista Brown and Alicia Humphrey led the Danville Blue Devils to a 7-4 victory over the Ashland Arrows in varsity softball action on Friday afternoon.
According to the game report, Danville took an early lead in the top of the first inning when Brown doubled to drive in the game's first run. Humphrey extended that lead in the third inning with a two-run home run to center field, putting the Blue Devils up 3-0. Although Ashland fought back with runs throughout the game, Danville's offense continued to apply pressure. In the top of the seventh, Brown hit a solo home run—her second extra-base hit of the day—and an Ashland error allowed another run to score, securing the victory for Danville.
Addy Bocock earned the win for Danville with a complete-game performance. The right-hander allowed eight hits and four runs, two of which were earned. She struck out six and walked two in seven innings of work. Marlee Henderson took the loss for Ashland after surrendering five runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings. She struck out three and walked four.
Brown had a standout day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a home run. Humphrey also drove in two runs. Danville showed good plate discipline, drawing five walks in the game.
Ashland had a balanced offensive effort with Maddy Hoffman, Rowyn Garn, and Kenna Chandler each collecting two hits. Hoffman, Henderson, and Stitzlein each recorded one RBI for the Arrows.
With this win, Danville improves its season record and will look to continue its momentum Saturday on the road against Massillon Perry.
