The Knox Substance Abuse Action Team, in collaboration with Knox Public Health and local law enforcement, will host a prescription drug take-back event on April 26, 2025. This initiative aims to promote the safe disposal of medications and raise awareness about medication misuse. The announcement was made in a press release on April 7, 2025.
According to the Knox Substance Abuse Action Team, the event is part of the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Residents are encouraged to bring expired, unused, or unwanted medications in clear Ziploc bags to one of five designated drop-off sites across Knox County. The event will also collect syringes for safe disposal.
For those unable to participate in person, Knox Public Health offers free Deterra pouches for safely deactivating medications at home. Year-round disposal options are available through drop boxes at several law enforcement locations within the county. However, items such as liquids, inhalers, sharps, and illegal substances are not accepted in these boxes.
