Danville's Lane Cline | Zack Melton

The Danville Blue Devils secured a 1-0 victory over the Mt. Gilead Indians on Wednesday, breaking a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth inning on a defensive miscue.

Both teams received strong performances on the mound. Danville’s Nolan Ridgway delivered a dominant outing, tossing a complete game shutout while allowing just four hits. The right-hander struck out seven and walked two. Mt. Gilead’s Gage Baker was equally impressive, striking out 11 over six innings while allowing just two hits and one unearned run.

Danville’s offense managed only two hits in the game, with Lane Cline and Grayson Brokaw each collecting one. The game’s only run came in the sixth when a Mt. Gilead error allowed a runner to cross the plate.

Mt. Gilead also struggled offensively against Ridgway, with Hayden Somerlot, Landon Riggs, Baker, and Cameron Vickers each recording one hit.

The Blue Devils played clean defense, turning a double play to keep the Indians off the scoreboard.

With the win, Danville continues its strong start to the season, leaning on its pitching and defense to secure victories.
