The Fredericktown Freddies defeated Loudonville, 71-56, in a boys’ basketball game on Dec. 18, improving their record to 5-2. Loudonville, now 1-5, started strong but couldn’t sustain their early momentum as the Freddies took control in the second half.
Loudonville held a narrow 13-12 lead after the first quarter, but Fredericktown responded with a solid second-quarter performance, outscoring the Redbirds 15-9 to take a 27-22 lead at halftime. In the second half, the Freddies continued to build their advantage, outscoring Loudonville 44-34 to secure the 15-point win.
Fredericktown shot 43.3 percent from the field, but their three-point shooting was less effective, as they finished 6 of 25 from beyond the arc. Despite the struggles from long range, the Freddies dominated inside, scoring 43 of their 71 points in the paint. The Freddies also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 23 points off of Loudonville’s mistakes. While Fredericktown committed 16 turnovers of their own, their defense was able to limit Loudonville’s opportunities, forcing 18 turnovers from the Redbirds.
Brode Davis was the top scorer for Fredericktown, finishing with 15 points, five steals, and three assists. He was instrumental in both the offensive and defensive efforts, creating opportunities for his teammates while disrupting Loudonville’s plays. Gavin Toombs also played a key role, contributing 14 points and seven rebounds, providing much-needed stability in the paint. Carson Rinehart added another 14 points, along with six rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks. His all-around performance was crucial in the Freddies’ second-half surge.
The Freddies’ defense, coupled with their offensive execution, was the key to their victory. While their shooting from beyond the arc was off, they made up for it by attacking the basket and playing tough defense. The combination of strong inside scoring and capitalizing on turnovers proved to be too much for Loudonville to handle.
Loudonville struggled to maintain consistency throughout the game, particularly in the second half. Despite the efforts of a few key players, the Redbirds were unable to build on their early lead. They were limited to just two players scoring in double digits, and their turnovers prevented them from staying within striking distance.
Fredericktown’s victory adds to a solid season so far, with the Freddies bouncing back from an early-season loss to improve their record to 5-2. The team’s balanced play, with contributions from multiple players, continues to be a hallmark of their success. The Freddies will now look to build on this performance as they head into their next matchup against Danville on Dec. 21 at 7:15 p.m.
The win against Loudonville was an important step for Fredericktown as they continue to develop and refine their game. The team has shown resilience and depth, with different players stepping up in each game. With the season still young, the Freddies are looking to continue their upward trajectory as they enter the heart of their schedule.
