The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets Boys' Varsity wrestling team secured a 46-24 victory over Hilliard Darby during Thursday night's meet.
According to the match details, Mount Vernon won in nine of the 14 weight classes, ranging from 106 to 285 pounds. The team demonstrated depth and talent across various divisions, with several wrestlers achieving key victories. Caleb Snyder initiated the success for Mount Vernon in the 106-pound weight class by defeating Ian Cassidy of Hilliard Darby. The momentum continued with Tye Thomas overcoming Mohammed Rahal in the 132-pound class and Preston Hempfield defeating Dylan Santagata in the 138-pound division.
In subsequent matches, Atambai Asilbekov triumphed over Felix Senter-Roy in the 144-pound weight class, while Mavrik Gregory dominated Logan Copper in the 157-pound category. Hayden Higgins added another win against Ethan Wenger in the 165-pound division. Jake Taylor contributed to Mount Vernon's lead with a victory over Camden Mehmen at 175 pounds. Camren Schonauer and Alex Taylor concluded the evening's wins for Mount Vernon in the 190-pound and 285-pound classes, respectively.
With this overall victory, Mount Vernon continues its strong season under Head Coach Corey Firebaugh's leadership. "We had a strong performance across the board tonight," Firebaugh said. "The guys showed discipline and focus in each match. It’s great to see so many of our wrestlers stepping up, and it gives us a lot of confidence moving forward."
