The Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) Men's Basketball Team (7-5) picked up an 88-67 win out west at Cal Maritime (3-6) on Saturday, Dec. 14.
MVNU’s offensive attack was potent from the start and led to 55% shooting from the floor and 9-16 (56%) shooting from deep in the first half. The Cougars fell just short of a 50 point half, entering the break up 47-27 on the hosts.
While the three-ball didn’t fall with the same efficiency in the second half, MVNU remained hot from the field as a whole and remained in control throughout the remainder of the game. Six Cougars scored in double-figures in an excellent, well-balanced offensive attack in the win.
“Thought our guys got better in spurts tonight," said MVNU Head Coach Jared Ronai. "Cal Maritime has a tradition-rich program and they play an up-tempo style that can create problems. Our guys responded when they went on a mini-run in the second half and finished well. Looking forward to finishing our trip strong.”
MVNU wraps up its California trip with a game at Simpson University on Monday, Dec. 16 at 3 p.m. EST.
