The second week of the young high school football kicks off with four local teams in action. Here is a look at this week's contests:
Danville (1-0) at Utica (0-1), 7 p.m.
A Knox County rivalry kicks off tonight when Danville travels to Utica.
Last week, Utica took an early lead, but was shut down at home in a 21-6 loss to Centerburg.
Danville had an impressive start to the young season, knocking off Worthington Christian 50-21.
Blue Devils running back Aidan Burke scored four touchdowns and ran for 145 yards on 23 carries to lead the offensive output. Burke also snagged one of three Danville interceptions to pace the defense.
Utica started its season red-hot, taking a first-quarter lead on a 43-yard touchdown catch by Gavin Tussey from quarterback Hayden Piper.
Newark at Mt. Vernon (0-1), 7 p.m.
Mt. Vernon aims to improve on an opening-week setback when it hosts Newark.
The Jackets were handed a 31-27 loss against Marion Harding a week ago.
Quarterback Jake Taylor was a standout performer for Mt. Vernon, throwing for 241 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for a pair of touchdowns.
The Mt. Vernon secondary comes into the game hot, having gotten interceptions from Gavin Thomas and Hayden Higgins.
Newark travels for the first time this season after knocking off Licking Heights 31-21 a week ago.
Wynford (0-1) at East Knox (0-1), 7 p.m.
East Knox looks to rebound from a heart-breaking loss in the opening week of the season when they host Wynford in a non-conference battle.
The Bulldogs took a fourth-quarter advantage in last week's 8-7 loss to Northridge on a 68-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jaxon Lester, but couldn't quite hold on to the lead.
The defense was a bright spot for East Knox, allowing Northridge just 207 yards and the single late touchdown.
Wynford also suffered defeat in the season's opening contest, falling 49-13 to Galion.
Fredericktown (1-0) at Northridge (1-0), 7 p.m.
Fredericktown aims to improve to 2-0 in the season when it visits also unbeaten Northridge.
Fredericktown opened the 2024 campaign with an impressive 30-28 win at Highland.
Quarterback Blake Sipes threw two touchdown passes to Gavin Toombs to pace the Freddies' attack. Sipes also ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns while Elijah Roush ran for 173 yards on 35 carries with a touchdown.
Defensively, Fredericktown will once again look to top tacklers Roush and Kamdyn Clutter to help stop the Northridge offense.
Northridge comes into the game with some confidence after pulling off a come-from-behind 8-7 win on the road against East Knox in the season's opening week.
