Freddies ball control outlasts Highland

Sports

Fredericktown (1-0) rallied from a three-point deficit at the half to edge Highland 30-28 in the first game of the season for both teams.

Junior quarterback Blake Sipes was 6-of-14 with touchdown throws of 4 and 22 yards to junior receiver Gavin Toombs to help lead the Freddies on offense. Sipes also ran 35 times for 173 yards and a touchdown.

The Freddies rushing attack wore down Highland, particularly in the second half as Fredericktown doubled up the Fighting Scots on time of posession.

Senior running back Elijah Roush fell just short of a 100-yard day, finishing with 95 yards on 21 carries.

Defensively, Fredericktown got eight combined tackles each from Roush and sophomore Kamdyn Clutter.

Highland cut the lead to just two late in the fourth quarter, but Fredericktown was once again able to control the ball and run out the clock.

Fredericktown travels to Northridge on Friday.
