The Knox County Garden Clubs are sponsoring a flower show entitled “America the Beautiful” during the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival at the Living Center, 201 North Main Street on Aug. 9, 10, and 11.

The Flower Show, “America The Beautiful” will be open for viewing on Friday, Aug. 9, from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Flower Show is open to the world – all gardeners/designers, Garden Club members, master gardeners, Living Center residents, and any adult or junior. Entries will be accepted from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Living Center. Oral judging will be Friday, Aug. 9, at 1 p.m., open to exhibitors only.

Flower Show schedules may be picked up after July 4 at the entrance to the Living Center. Schedules and entry tags may be requested by calling or emailing Jo Ann Graham at 740-397-5156 or j.graham@embarqmail.com.

On the schedule, you will see classes for annuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs, flowering shrubs, and container-grown plants. For juniors ages 19 and under, there are classes for flowers, container-grown plants, and a constructed creature. For Living Center residents, there are classes for container-grown plants and a design using dried flowers.

The theme of the show is “America The Beautiful.” The artistic classes have the name of a line from the song. There are junior and adult artistic divisions.

To help all exhibitors (club members and the public), there will be two workshops with Jo Ann Graham and Audrey Spearman. On July 10, Wednesday, at 1 p.m. at the Living Center, there will be an artistic design workshop. Some designs will be demonstrated, and participants are asked to bring questions on designs in the schedule and bring container and plant material to make one or more practice designs.

On July 31, Wednesday, at 1 p.m. at the Living Center, there will be a horticulture workshop on selecting, conditioning, and grooming horticulture for the show with many hints and, hopefully, examples for a hands-on experience.

For more information on the workshops call or email Jo Ann Graham.
