The City of Newark Parks Department is inviting young anglers to cast their lines at the 4th annual T.J. Evans Youth Fishing Derby, set for Saturday, July 12 at T.J. Evans Family Park. The event is free and open to youth aged 15 and under.
In-person registration and check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. near shelter house #3. A brief welcome will kick off the morning, with fishing officially starting at 8 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring any fish they catch to the weigh-in station as they go. Weigh-in will end at 10:45 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony at approximately 11 a.m.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three participants based on the total weight of fish caught. Door prizes will also be raffled off throughout the event, and attendees can enjoy free donuts and drinks.
A fishing permit is not required to participate in the derby, but all standard park rules remain in effect. To prepare for the event, T.J. Evans Family Park will be closed on July 10 and 11 and will reopen at 7:30 a.m. on the morning of the derby.
