Wade hits inside the park homer to lead Pirates to blowout win over Cristo Rey

It was a huge day for the Cardington-Lincoln offense with 18 hits in a 16-6 win over Cristo Rey on April 9, where the Pirates put 10 runs on the board in the first inning.

"Our team did a nice job of jumping out to a big lead," said Coach Ryan Goetzman. "We were able to use the whole team in our win over Cristo Rey. That was a good day for our program."

Wyatt Wade provided fireworks early, hitting an inside the park home run in the first inning that scored three runs. Later in the inning, Abner Edgell tripled and knocked in two runs making it a 5-0 game. After back-to-back singles by Bryce Hartley and Fisher Schuman, Wyatt Denney doubled in a pair of runs to go up by seven runs. Denton Garrison followed with a triple to center that brought around Denney to score. AJ Hall then got in on the action with an RBI double, followed by an RBI single by Wade to go up 10-0.

Cristo Ray got on the board for a run in the top of the second on a wild pitch to make it 10-1.

In the bottom of the second inning, Kayden Wells was hit by a pitch to start things off. Edgell doubled, advancing Wells to third base, and then Fiant drew a walk. Hartley extended the lead further on a three run triple, and then Devin Cimino hit an RBI single to go up 14-1.

Cristo Ray added a run in the top of the fourth on a steal of home, and then in the top of the fifth they tacked on four more runs to make it 14-6. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Fiant and Cimino each stole home to cap off the scoring.

Wade was the star for the Pirates, going 2-for-2 with an inside the park homer and four RBIs. Hall also went 2-for-2, belting a double and knocking in a run. He scored a pair of runs in the game, as well. Fiant, Edgell, Garrison and Hartley all tripled in the win, and Edgell, Wyatt Denney and Zach Pickens all doubled. Hartley was a major run producer with three RBIs and two runs, in a 2-for-2 day. Denney added two RBIs in the game.

Merek McClure picked up the win for the Pirates, going one perfect inning with a strikeout to start the game.

Cardington-Lincoln had a tough time the rest of the week with a pair of losses to KMAC rival Northmor by scores of 5-0 and 10-3. In the first game, Cardington-Lincoln was led by Merek McClure and Denton Garrison, who each doubled and went 1-for-3. 

AJ Hall took the loss for the Pirates. He allowed five runs, but only one was earned, eight hits and two walks in six innings. Hall also struck out six batters.

In the second game, Cardington-Lincoln was led by Garrison, who was 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Hall and McClure both had RBIs for the Pirates.

Wade was handed the loss, but it was defensive lapses that was his demise. He allowed nine runs with one earned in five and two-thirds innings. Wade gave up six hits and three walks, while striking out five.

The Pirates are now 3-6 on the season, and 1-3 in KMAC play.
