Knox County Auditor Sarah Thorne will have the opportunity to choose the food bank beneficiary for at least $1,000 from the $1 million settlement with Dollar General.

Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced that $750,000 of the settlement would go to food banks or other hunger relief organizations in Ohio's 88 counties, according to a press release from the Ohio Attorney General's Office. The agreement with Dollar General was reached due to customers being charged more at the register than what was displayed on the shelves.

The county auditor in each county must submit their chosen beneficiary by Nov. 30 to Yost's office, according to a press release from the Ohio Attorney General's Office. County auditors are responsible for conducting inspections ensuring correct product prices at registers. Errors made by Dollar General were discovered by county auditors across the state.

Every county that has at least one Dollar General store will receive a minimum $1,000 check as per a press release from the Ohio Attorney General's Office. The rest of funds will be distributed based on the number of stores each county possesses.

"Yost said he hopes the funds will be distributed to the auditor-designated beneficiaries before the winter holidays", according to a press release from the Ohio Attorney General's Office. Mandatory changes must be implemented by Dollar General for accurate product pricing at registers.
