Make it nine straight wins for the No. 2 Highland Lady Scots (23-3, 12-2), who have been playing their best volleyball at just the right time with a sweep of No. 4 Buckeye Valley (24-3, 14-0) to take the Division II Central 2 District title on Saturday.
Highland won with set wins of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-19 to knock off the Barans. Kameron Stover had a match high 23 kills to go with two aces and 10 digs. Larsen Terrill had 30 assists, seven kills, two aces and 13 digs. Camryn Miller had 18 digs and MaKaylee Merckling had 12 digs. Savanna Sanborn served three aces.
Highland moved onto the district final match after sweeping No. 5 London (21-4, 9-1) in the Central 2 district semifinals on Thursday night. The Lady Scots won with relative ease, by sets of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-19. Stover had 27 kills and five aces to lead the team, with Terrill setting up kills well with 33 assists. Terrill had 14 digs, six kills and four aces, and Camryn Miller had six assists. Sanborn tallied 10 digs in the win.
Leading up to this match, the Lady Scots knocked off No. 22 Whitehall-Yearling (25-3, 25-9, 25-7) and No. 19 KIPP Columbus (25-1, 25-9, 25-3) in sweep fashion, as well.
Terrill had stuffed the stat sheet against Whitehall-Yearling, leading the team with 18 assists, 13 digs and five aces, while also tallying seven kills. Mia Stanco had a team high eight kills. Miller had 10 assists, nine digs and four aces in the match. Sanborn served well with four aces.
In the dominant win over KIPP, the kills were spread out between eight players with Stanco and Regan Maibach leading the way with four apiece. Stanco was incredible at the serving line, tallying 12 aces. Miller had nine aces, Alexis Brown had seven aces and MaKaylee Merckling recorded six aces. Addison Mullins had four aces and Kendal Kline had an ace, as well, with the team serving up 46 aces in all. Miller had a team high six digs and Kline led the team in assists with 15.
The Lady Scotts take on No. 2 Badin (19-7, 7-3) on Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. in the Regional Semifinals. The Rams were the Southwest 2 District champions and have had sweep wins in three of the last four matches.
