The struggles for the Fighting Scots (1-9, 0-6) continued with losses to Clear Fork (5-5, 2-3) and Crestview (10-0, 5-0) last week, making it six straight defeats for the Highland boys’ basketball team.

The Highland girls’ basketball team is coming off a 4-19 record where they went 2-12 in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference, and while they have lost five key players to graduation, the Lady Scots are focused on rebuilding the team with a young squad that is hungry and eager to improve.

No. 12 Highland (6-6, 2-5) snuck by with a win in the opening round of the OHSAA Division V, Region 18 football tournament, but No. 4 Oak Harbor (12-0, 7-0) was too much to handle in a 41-7 blowout in the regional quarterfinals where Dalton Witter ran it in for three scores.

The No. 2 Lady Scots were knocked off in the regional semifinals of the state volleyball tournament on Nov. 2 by No. 2 Badin (20-7, 7-3), but it was a solid season for Highland who were conference and district champions and ended 23-4 with a 12-2 MOAC record.

Make it nine straight wins for the No. 2 Highland Lady Scots (23-3, 12-2), who have been playing their best volleyball at just the right time with a sweep of No. 4 Buckeye Valley (24-3, 14-0) to take the Division II Central 2 District title on Saturday.

No. 12 Highland (6-5, 2-5) traveled to No. 5 Liberty-Benton (9-2, 7-0) and came away with an upset come-from-behind 21-17 victory in the opening round of the Region 18 playoffs, led by a 156 yard effort by Dane Nauman.

Highland (5-5, 2-1) running back Dane Nauman hit the century mark again with a rushing touchdown to lead the Fighting Scots, but it wasn’t enough as Ontario (9-1, 6-1) came away with a 34-20 in the final game of the regular season on Friday night.

Highland (5-4, 2-4) beat Clear Fork (1-8, 0-6) on Friday night 21-11 with Dane Nauman leading the charge with 210 yards and two touchdowns.

Highland (19-3, 12-2) finished the regular season on a five game winning streak and their 11th consecutive MOAC title with a sweep win over Ontario (12-10, 8-6), led by top notch performances by juniors Kameron Stover and Larsen Terrill.

The Lady Scots are seeking a tenth consecutive MOAC title and hope to make another deep run in the state tournament in 2022.

The Highland boys and girls golf teams hit the links last week, with the girls finishing second at Centerburg, and the boys finishing in fourth at Galion.

As 18 teams and nearly 800 total runners participated from various central Ohio schools in tt\he 2nd nnual Highland Flying Scots Cross Country Invitational, Utica’s Jay Figgins finished first in the Boys Division and Mount Vernon’s Sophie Zoldak finished second in the Girls Division, beaten only by Reece Savage of Johnstown.
