Mount Vernon, Lexington, Madison Comprehensive and Wooster all won mid-week volleyball matches this week.
Mount Vernon 3, West Holmes 0
Jurnie Gleason stepped up on both offense and defense for Mount Vernon (7-2, 4-1) on Tuesday against OCC foe West Holmes (1-7, 0-5), with the Yellow Jackets taking a 3-0 win over the Knights.
Mount Vernon and West Holmes battled in the first set, but the Yellow Jackets were able to come out on top with a close 25-22 win. The Yellow Jackets went up 25-15 in the second set and then polished things off with a 25-12 win in set three to complete the sweep.
Gleason had a match high 11 kills, and also led the way on defense with 10 digs. She excelled from the serving line as well, with a pair of aces. Emma Dean recorded nine kills, two aces, five blocks and four digs in what was great all-around performance. Tori Burdette set the ball well with 35 assists to go with four kills. Kaitlyn Thompson had eight kills and a pair of blocks, while Audrey Stuller had 18 digs. Ady Beaver was solid from the serving line with four aces, and also had nine digs on defense.
Lexington 3, Ashland 1
Lexington (5-2, 3-2) had huge offensive showings from the duo of sophomores, Ava Brown and Tatum Stover, who combined for 35 kills in a 3-1 win over Ashland (5-3, 2-3) on Tuesday.
Ashland took a 25-23 win in the first set, but that was all the Arrows could muster as the Minutemen won the next three sets despite there being multiple ties throughout.
In the second set Lexington jumped out to a 5-0 lead highlighted by a Tatum Stover ace. With the set tied 9-9, Stover struck again on a kill to take a one point lead. The Minutemen finished the set with a 25-21 win on a Bella Temple block/kill.
The third set was also tight, with the game tied 9-9 until Temple launched a kill to take the lead. The set was tied 18-18 when Brown gave Lexington the lead on a kill. Stover finished the with a kill to take the 25-22 win.
Set four started with Lexington up 3-0 on an ace by Stover, but both teams battled along the way with ties of 12-12, broken by a Stover ace, and 15-15 broken by a Stover kill. The Minutemen cruised the rest of the way to a 25-18 win.
Brown was an offensive force for Lexington with a match high 18 kills. Stover was right on her heels with 17 kills. Each of them were in top form serving, as well with Stover recording five aces and Brown with two aces. Temple had three aces to go with her 31 assists, seven kills and three blocks in the match. Brown also set the ball well with 12 assists. Defensively Stover was on top of her game with 25 digs, while Temple had 14 digs and Brown had 13 digs. Savannah Wolf added 10 digs.

Madison Comprehensive 3, Mansfield Senior 0
Madison Comprehensive (2-5, 2-3) made easy work of Mansfield Senior (0-7, 0-5) in an OCC matchup on Tuesday night, with Maddie Berry having a solid match setting the ball with 25 assists to lead the Rams to a sweep win.
The Rams won the first set 25-12 and continued their dominance with a 25-9 set two win and a 25-14 set three win.
Berry’s 25 assists helped set up Cielo Jacobus and Addy Farris throughout the match, who each had eight kills. Jacobus added two aces and two digs. Olivia Barley had 10 digs to lead the defense for the Rams.
Statistics were not available for Mansfield Senior at press time.
Wooster 3, New Philadelphia 0
Sophomore Sara Snowbarger fueled the offense for Wooster (8-0, 5-0) on Tuesday night against OCC rival New Philadelphia (5-2, 4-1), as the Generals continued its dominance with their eighth straight win of the season.
In the first set, Wooster’s Ava Riesen was a force on defense early with a pair of blocks that led to kills. Wooster took a 7-5 lead on a Sloan Agar kill. They ended up take a 19-12 lead on a kill by Riesen and went on to win 25-16.
The second set was all Wooster with a 25-10 win highlighted by a kill by Ellie Mason to start the set and a kill by Sidney Vandall to make it a 14-5 lead. The Generals finished off the Quakers in the third set with a 25-16 win.
Snowbarger’s offense was on full display with 16 kills and an ace, to go along with 10 digs on defense for Wooster. Megan Lantis was the team leader on defense with 12 digs and a block, as well as eight kills on offense. Grace Jones had three blocks, and she also had four aces. Josie Wright recorded 10 kills.
